Apac is not only a district of today; it is part of Uganda's wider national story. Apollo Milton Obote was born in Akokoro, in present-day Apac District. He became Uganda's executive Prime Minister after independence and later served as President. The State House biography records his birth in Akokoro and his early political mobilisation in Lango and northern Uganda.
Akbar Adoko Nekyon, a first cousin of Obote, was also born in Akokoro and became a prominent national political figure. Historical reporting records his service in Uganda's post-independence Cabinet and his role in public life, including his involvement in the development of Muslim education and national institutions.
The history of Apac therefore includes people who played significant roles in Uganda's national story. The question for today's Apac is how that historical legacy can be connected to stronger public services, education, health, roads, agriculture, business opportunities and accountable local development.
This newsroom will continue examining Apac's history while reporting the district's present-day challenges, achievements and the voices of its people.
Historical references: Daily Monitor reporting on Milton Obote's rise and Adoko Nekyon, and New Vision reporting on Obote's birthplace and Akokoro. Obote — Daily Monitor · Adoko Nekyon — Daily Monitor · Akokoro — New Vision

JAA stands for James Alele-Acuda. JAA Hard Talk Is Wealth News Network is a media platform built around Truth • Accountability • Community. It aims to publish accessible news, interviews, analysis and community stories from Uganda, Africa and the wider world.
Wan Ducu • Wan Acel represents a simple but powerful belief: we are one people, united by a common purpose.
It is a message of unity and belonging — a reminder that our differences should never divide us. Whether our backgrounds are different, whether we come from different tribes, clans, communities or regions, we are part of one greater community and share a common future.
No segregation. No tribal division. No clan barriers. No “us” and “them.” We are in this together.
Reported news and opinion should be clearly distinguished. Allegations should be attributed and relevant responses included where available.
